Caught a bit of that show The Greatest Loser and it seems one of the guys had immunity so decided to pig out and put on 12lbs at their weigh in. Anyway the I saw show the weigh in again and this week that same person lost 26lbs. It seems it was a strategy of his, to put weight on then work out like mad during the week. Seems it worked, he not only lost the 12 but an extra 14lbs.

The guy in question was a wrestler. Is this something that's known about in certain training circles where people are trying to cut weight? Does putting on weight after loosing so much somehow kick start your metabolism and you end up losing heaps more? Mind you, the people on this show are quite large, we're not talking about just losing a few kgs for a fight and some of them had already lost 50 - 60 lbs. I thought it was interesting anyway.

Nah, I dont think it could have been just fluid, they way they spoke he was really pigging out. and even if you put on 12lbs of fluid would ou then loose 26lbs of fluid.? Confused Seems odd alright but as you say it worked.

no most of the weight he would have put on would have been fluid(weight gain in a week) ok some fat , the lost was both fat stores and fluid

not a common thing that i know but looking into it

how can you put mainly fluid on by eating solids unless it was really salty and your body retained fluide but even 9kgs of fluid in a week is real scary

some serious problems can occur for sure.... I think that there is a thread about boxers dropping weight and then suffering server brain damage due to the lack of fluid around the brain....

p.s. how is your trip so far Kenson?

I dont know if it makes a difference if you have a lot of excess body mass. Someone who is only 10 or 12 kg over their fight weight might have more side affects losing that amount in a short time over someone who has 100kg extra and is losing the same 10 or 12 kgs, they still have body mass containing fluid to operate on. Just my thoughts, im sure someone will know if it makes a difference medically.

its a strange one ask several people

remeber that biggest loser is in one week sections

so matt gets immunity put on weight (12 pounds)
facts mainly point to fliud gain

next week loses 26 pounds
firstly lost 12 pounds from last week gain 9fliud reducation)
second lost 14 pounds of fat due to the program and dieting
really only lost the 14 pounds stripped down 12 pounds of fliud gain from the last week

not to much info on this sort of thing, read my fitness book and manual no info in this sort of thing why not used

cutting weight for fights biggest help, where you drop fliud to weigh in then rehrydate but kinda in reverse
